my mom is a ninja. i have found her awake and ferociously organizing after staying awake for 48 hours. i have found her bee-bopping around the house singing, "oh happy day..." and "i'm so excited..." at the top of her lungs. i have found her poking her head out of a cabinet at 5 in the morning bright-eyed and bushy tailed ecstatic about all the crap she got rid of while she couldn't sleep. "what in the world was I thinking?!" she proclaimed. i have found her sitting in her chair covered in papers up to her eye balls while trying to organize 20 years worth of recipes that had been filed away in a filing cabinet. i have never seen my mom as happy in all her life than i see her right now. she has this incredible renewed zest and love for life that i envy. it is unfortunate however, that it has come in the face of metastatic breast cancer.

she told me that everyday she convinces herself that she is "happy, healthy and healed". the mind is a very powerful thing and i know if she believes it, it will happen. my mom just told me a story about when she was pregnant with my sister she woke up on a saturday feeling labor pains and tried to wake my dad up (apparently he didn't believe her because he quickly fell back to sleep). my mom, sitting there contemplating what to do, realized that her doctor was out of town and even if my dad had woken up, she didn't want any other doctor delivering her precious little baby. so, she did what any other woman in that situation would do...she convinced herself that she wasn't in labor. suspicions were confirmed on monday when she found out that she had indeed been in labor for two days!

now, i know that if she can keep a baby from popping out, i sure as heck know she can keep this cancer from spreading...because my mom is in fact a ninja. are you a ninja?
