go veg

we are vegetarian...yes, even our dog. if i had a nickle for every time we get asked, "why are you vegetarian?" we would be wealthy enough to, at the very least, fund james' race team.

there are a plethora of reasons for us "turning" vegetarian. it began on a warm summer afternoon on the oregon coast when our hippy friend as we called him, eric, had a heart to heart with james. that conversation led to us watching a movie called Earthlings (watch in 10 parts here) which resulted in us ending our long relationship with meat... "cold turkey"- pun intended, i just couldn't help myself.

now, 2.5 years later we are feeling healthier than ever. we feel cleaner, more pure and our bodies no longer have the residue of the souls of tortured animals. our list of reasons for choosing this lifestyle seems to grow as time goes on. recently, i have become interested in finding support in the bible for our dietary decisions and i have been fascinated with what i have found. one of the most intriguing articles I came across is called "
Vegetarianism in the Bible". it covers a multitude of stories in the bible referencing a vegetarian diet, God's disapproval of animal sacrifice and even the enforcement of the humane treatment of animals.

we are often asked if we are tempted to eat meat or if it is difficult, but to be honest it's not. the only difficult thing has been adjusting to the lack of vegetarian options at restaurants in the south, which actually hasn't been such a bad thing because it has forced me to become more domestic.

i challenge you to change your diet for two weeks. if you are a big red meat eater, cut it out. if you are a dessert person, cut out sugar. and if you're feeling bold, cut meat (even fish) out for two weeks, but be smart about it and don't set yourself up for failure. it's all about meal planning...don't get caught eating cheese and pasta everyday. whatever your vice is, cut it out for two short weeks and see how good it makes you feel. you may be surprised at the result!

one love.
